my statement

While watching TV last night, a commercial came on with a guy asking his girlfriend to marry him. I don’t know what came into me and I suddenly asked her, “Will you marry me?”

She stopped from cleaning her toe nails, looked at me and said, “Aren’t we already?”

But I do want to marry her someday with all the flowers, music and mushiness in between. I want to walk the wedding walk.

It’s not just a whim or another reason to party.

It’s a statement.

It’s a declaration that the woman standing in front of me is the one I want to share my road to forever with. This is the woman I want to share my days and nights with.

It’s embracing our love and commitment and completely letting go of fear.

I can’t exactly remember when it happened but I can no longer imagine myself looking at someone else’s eyes while saying the words “I love you” soulfully. I can only look at her.

I don’t know how it happened that I feel this warm happiness every time I see her smile.

I close my eyes and I see her.

I open my eyes and I feel my soul falling freely into the depths of her love.

i love you, mi amor. happy 16, babe.
