an old, old story... 4, 5 years ago?

the other side of the coin

They walked silently amidst the noise of the people around them. She wanted, no, she needed silence and so did he. She looked him in the eye, as if saying something and they both got up to leave.

They met in the parking lot and did everything as if they have been doing it for years. He opened the door for her and she rode the car silently. When he was already in the driver’s seat, the silence was broken. “Where do you want to go?” He asked without looking at her.

“Anywhere…” she was looking out the window.

He started driving, so fast that she reached for his hand that was controlling the gear. He slowed down. When they got to their destination, they both got out and walked until they found a nice view facing the volcano and the lake. It was terribly cold. She started shaking so he gave her his jacket.

“You have never put your arms around me…”

“Huh?” he was stunned by what she said.

“Nothing…” she did not want to risk again.

She could never take a risk for him and for anybody else for that matter.

“You wanted to talk?” he asked while trying to brush off the unfamiliar and yet soothing atmosphere between them.

“You confuse me… one day you’re so sweet and malambing, some days you are so antipatiko… such an asshole…” he smiled at that remark.

“… and then the day came when you said something and it came to me as if you were blowing me off. I just don’t like that kind of games.”

He just looked away, he ran out of words to defend himself and his wounded ego.

She held his hand, trying to take his pain away. She just didn’t like to see him like this.

“I never gave you what my favorite part was, huh?” she said, trying to change the subject.

He was still staring at the darkness, just listening to what she is saying.

She tried to ignore his silence and continued. “Well, I like it as a whole. Don’t say that I didn’t really like it just because I couldn’t pick out a favorite part. I’m just the kind of person who doesn’t have much preference.”

She then sat behind him and started massaging his temples. “You shouldn’t think much…” she whispered to his ear. “Maybe I’ll study French for you…” she said that only because she was already running out stuff to say.

He smirked at what she said but still chose to be silent.

“The thing is we don’t need psychological profile tests to see if we are compatible. It is much exciting and nicer if we see it ourselves. But maybe we don’t have much time to explore each other… we live in different worlds…” she rested her head against his back, trying to listen to his breathing.

“And it is not just about being compatible, it’s about how we are willing to change for another person despite all the incompatibilities…”

She suddenly got up and reached her hand towards him. “Common! I feel like dancing! Dance with me…”

He got up and put his hands on her waist, she rested her arms on his shoulders, her head on his chest. He always loved the smell of her hair.

Their bodies started swaying… without music… under the stars and the cold breeze around them. They didn’t care.

Perhaps… perhaps… they would make a beautiful pot out of mud.
